Hotelito Desconocido, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
The aptly-named Hotelito Desconocido is a charming little eco-oriented hotel located on a wetland estuary that is home to more than 150 types of birds. Desconocido means “hidden” in Spanish and they couldn’t have come up with a more appropriate moniker – as getting to the hotel is half the adventure – via a little dirt road from the one-horse, one-shop pueblo of La Cruz de Loreto, through the lush green landscapes to the unspoiled beaches of the estuary.

The 24 palafitos or thatched palapa huts are built on stilts overlooking the water. The hotel uses almost no electricity – solar panels heat showers and run ceiling fans, all produce is grown in the hotel’s organic garden.

Getting in touch with nature also extends to keeping romance alive, as there is a candles-only policy for evening lighting! Desconocido offers guests beautiful, traditional accommodation modelled along the lines of typical Mexican fishing village in an exotic leafy setting. Mosquito nets above beds, bamboo showers, lagoon setting, dirt road and all. A gem of an eco-resort destination. This hotel will definitely not go “hidden” for long.

Leisure Activities
Fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, scuba diving, sailing, windsufing, canoeing, turtle watching. And the best surprise awaits those visiting in July: watching sea-turtle babies hatch!
Two restaurants (Cantarino and Noplito), swimming pool, night club, ceiling fans, conference facilities, spa.
