majesticThe Lion City of Singapore, has always been all about a centrally-located business, transportation (and later convention) hub of South East Asia, sitting at the crossroads of the busiest shipping route in the world, perfectly positioned between East and West. And her hotels reflected it nicely, world-class luxury chains of all flags, all trying to outdo each other with the expected luxury amenities, service, and big bold architecture. It seemed the small hotel with personality and character was missing in the picture. Until now.

Italian car design pedigree in the most unlikely of places

In the automobile industry, any car buff will ask “what’s under the hood?”, while across the pond in Sunny Italy that question will also be accompanied by another “Who’s the designer?” Pininfarina, Giugiaro, Bertone, perhaps?

So what does that have to do with a boutique hotel converted from an 1890 red brick building in Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, you may ask. Italian pedigree, that’s what! The Keating’s unusual interior – all splashed in a dominant red – comes from the same creative mind that designs the red hot Ferrari and Maserati.

Finca Son Gener, one fine antique farmhouse in Mallorca

majorca-finca-patio.jpgLocated on the island of Mallorca, not far from the ancient town of Arta, is the delightful Finca Son Gener Inn and Spa.

A few years ago, architect and designer Toni Esteva bought the decaying rustic farmhouse and olive oil mill dating back to the 18th century and refurbished the property; preserving the essential qualities of the structures but refurbishing the interiors and the grounds. Cool limestone floors, white stucco walls, antiques, and a few modern artworks comprise the decor.
