Singapore’s Fountain of Wealth: a perfect blend of feng-shui and modern design language

Singapore may be one of the world’s smallest nations, but it is a formidable force on the global trade map, with Asia’s 2nd highest GDP/capita after Japan. Including the excellent optimization of her position, at the crossroads of East-West trade route, and hub of Southeast Asia. As a multiethnic country with a Chinese majority population, Chinese culture and customs permeates through daily life, including how business is conducted. Feng Shui experts are commonly consulted before starting any business venture, to find conspicuous days and essentially achieve a Yin & Yang balance. Feng Shui - as we all know – extends into the built environment, impacting architecture and design in significant way.
The Fountain of Wealth is an excellent example. The world’s largest fountain, according to the 1998 Guiness Book of World Records, with a base area of 1,683 sqm, its a perfect blend of modern architecture fused with age-old Feng Shui eastern concept. Four 13 m high bronze legs support a huge bronze ring measuring 21 m in diameter. It weighs a hefty 85 tones.
