How to practice “Eat, Pray, Love” in Bali
By Dian Hasan | Mary 19, 2010
Julia Roberts’ upcoming 2010 summer movie, “Eat, Pray, Love”, based on the hugely successful novel by Elizabeth Gilbert, will no doubt help promote the travel destinations depicted in the novel.
Regardless of whether the movie will be a commercial success, Tuscany, India, and the undeniable star attraction – BALI – are already gaining traction. Initial interest in the book, and now the movie, has already seen an increase in tourist arrivals in Bali. Led by female travelers, for whom the book is intended for, the novel’s theme of self-discovery and actualization, in search of life’s balance and – most importantly – the balance of body, mind and soul – strikes a chord with Bali’s offering.
Therefore, boutique resorts & hotels, gourmet cuisine, yoga, meditation, spa, herbal remedy, traditional markets, organic spa treatments, ecotourism practices, Bali’s Green School… are all key word searches that are popping up in the Googledom search universe.
For North American female travelers, their search for what Bali has to offer might just have ended, with a travel package designed specifically with this novel in mind.
Women’s Retreat from Wake Up in Bali, is a travel-program laden with activities that attempt to remain faithful to the novel. Designed as a wholesome approach to journey of self-discovery, Women’s Retreat is positioned as a transformational experience that is unique and life-enhancing. Read the rest of this entry »

Sleek & Chic ~ Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya, Resort & Spa, Mexico (1 of 2)
By Dian Hasan | December 4, 2009
Mexico has been developing its modern tourism for a good few decades, securely placing itself as among the world’s most formidable travel destinations. The lessons Mexico has learned from the inception of building cookie-cutter highrise hotels with little character in Cancun and Acapulco, in the 1960s and 1970s, has now evolved into a new approach.
Hotels, and notably the resorts, that are more eco-oriented, place-specific, with a more distinctive cultural and design statement. The end result are hotels that are generally low-rise, have fewer rooms, and blend in with their immediate environment.
Riviera Maya, a resort development south of Cancun, along Mexico’s Caribbean coast is one case in point. And the chic Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya exemplifies this new breed of hotels impeccably.

Pemba Island has been separated from the mainland and Zanzibar for decades, leaving an untouched and pristine island of great beauty and fertility. The mosaic of forests, swamps, mangroves, hidden beaches and lagoons is scattered with the ruins of mosques and tombs mostly reclaimed by the forest – sites that date back to Arab domination when Pemba Isalnd was seized by the Sultan of Muscat (Oman) in the 17th century. He loved the Spice Islands and established his court in Zanzibar and ruled Muscat from there.
