The charm of organized chaos in “El D.F.”

By Dian Hasan | September 1, 2009

mexico_city1Brimming with history & culture, Mexico City is a city that is probably more famous for its size – among the world’s biggest cities – that gets el DF (say it like a local: élle Dé éFé, if you want to avoid standing out like a sore thumb) its bad rap for its pollution and traffic. However, the thousands of visitors that visit one of the world’s leading travel destinations are attracted to Mexico Citys interesting neighborhoods, and her glorious past – both Colonial and Aztec. Schrager+Starck duo magic in London ~ The Sanderson

Sanderson-London-UK-EntranceA hotelier with a knack for hipness and pushing the envelope, and a French designer known for his quirky “out-of-the-box” creations, sure sound like a match made in heaven. And the collaboration did generate magic, coining the term boutique design hotel in the 1980s, long before the term “boutique” jumped into the vocabulary of the hospitality industry. Bali design tantalizes SoBe Miami Resort ~ The Setai

By Dian Hasan | August 17, 2009

The Setai Miami_USA_theshoreclub_j8mbBearing the unmistakable imprint of legendary Indonesian hotelier Adrian Zecha – of Amanresorts fame – with Asian traditions of simplicity and elegance, The Setai Miami Beach is a utterly chic hotel. Sharing its design DNA with that of The Virtus Milan (formerly The Chedi Milan), the interior comes from the same creative talent, Indonesian interior designer Jaya Ibrahim, who has worked his magic on a few Amanresorts across the globe. For a tad bit of trivia: few in the travel industry know that Zecha has a knack for naming hotels after abbreviations of Indonesian or Sanskrit. The Setai comes from the play on “Selatan Pantai”, a literal translation of “South Beach”. The Setai doesn’t fail to impress, consistently ranked top among ultra exclusive hotels in North America.
